Privacy Policy

1. Who operates this site
GuessTheNumber ("GuessTheNumber," "we," "us") is a game operated and sponsored by PrivacyTestLab, a company focused on browser privacy, security testing, and online safety education. This policy explains what data GuessTheNumber collects, why, and how it is handled. For questions, contact us at support@privacytestlab.com.
2. Data we collect
We collect the minimum data needed to run the game and leaderboard:
- Username: a self-chosen 5–8 character alphanumeric name, stored for 24 hours. We do not require or collect your real name, email, or any account information to play.
- Client identifier: a randomly generated identifier stored in your browser's local storage, used only to associate your username and game progress with your browser for the current day. It is not a tracking identifier used across other websites.
- Gameplay data: your guesses, scores, and attempt counts for the current day, used to calculate your leaderboard position.
- Coarse location (city/country level only): used solely to power the live "someone in [city] just guessed" reaction feature. We do not store your IP address — location is resolved in-memory for the fraction of a second needed to build that message and is then discarded.
- Basic technical data: standard server request logs (necessary for security and abuse prevention, such as rate-limiting) that most web infrastructure providers generate automatically.
3. What we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or physical address to play the game. We do not require account creation, and we do not sell personal data to third parties.
4. Cookies and local storage
GuessTheNumber uses your browser's local storage (not third-party tracking cookies) to remember your client identifier and cached username so your session survives a page reload. This data stays on your device and expires or becomes invalid after 24 hours in line with the server-side username expiry.
5. Third-party services
To operate the game, we rely on a small number of infrastructure providers, each processing only the minimum data required for their function:
- A hosting provider to serve the website and run the game logic.
- A managed Redis database to store daily leaderboard scores and usernames.
- A real-time messaging provider to power the live reaction feed.
None of these providers receive your real name, email, or any identity information, because we never collect it in the first place.
6. Advertising
If GuessTheNumber displays advertising, it will be through privacy-conscious ad partners and clearly disclosed. We will never allow ads that require collecting more personal data than described in this policy without updating this page first.
7. Children's privacy
GuessTheNumber is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because the game requires no name, email, or account, exposure is limited by design.
8. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete data associated with you. Because gameplay data is tied only to a temporary, self-chosen username and expires automatically within 48 hours, most requests are satisfied simply by letting that data expire. For any other request, contact support@privacytestlab.com.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the game evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
